In April 2024, the US Department of Justice updated its regulations for the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). This new rule sets specific legal requirements on University of Wisconsin–Madison’s digital tools and electronic resources, including those provided by third-party vendors.
Beginning April 24, 2026, all digital tools and electronic resources provided by vendors must conform to the WCAG 2.1 AA standards. Meeting these standards ensures that everyone, including disabled individuals, are able to more seamlessly access and use digital content.
UW–Madison values your services and products and wants to continue working with you, while also fulfilling its legal obligations. We require that your product conforms to WCAG 2.1 AA beginning April 24, 2026.
Additionally, please note:
- Compliance with the standard will be a requirement for new contract cycles.
- Documentation of your product’s compliance to the WCAG 2.1 AA standard may also be required for new contract cycles.
Thank you for your attention to this legal requirement as UW–Madison strives to ensure its digital tools and electronic resources are accessible to everyone.
Sincerely,
